The focus of the film was not performance, statistics or gameplay, but presence. Time spent observing the player moving through his environment, training, travelling and waiting. The intention was to reflect how young he is, where he is in his career, and the quiet intensity of that moment.
Shot on a combination of 16mm film and digital, the visual language leans into texture, restraint and rhythm rather than overt branding. Football Manager’s involvement remains subtle, allowing the story to feel human first and promotional second.
Production was deliberately minimal. Filming time with the player was limited to under an hour, requiring careful planning and instinctive shooting. Working with a small crew allowed the team to stay light, responsive and unobtrusive.
Despite tight constraints, the final film feels considered and complete, capturing a sense of trajectory without forcing narrative. It reflects the type of work For No Reason aims to do more of: character-led storytelling within a commercial framework.
